The Trifecta

There is a common theme with a majority of the merchants that consider migrating environments.  It typically has to do with recurring incidents that are causing loss of revenue due to outages or opportunity loss / excessive time spent on being a detective trying to troubleshoot technical challenges.  This can be tricky because sometimes it is unclear if the environment is the problem or the code itself.

When the developer, merchant and hosting provider are all truly working together, then the two most common problems disappear.  The merchant counts on the development team and hosting provider to prevent problems from popping up.  This can only be done if there is accountability and pro-active measures in place to monitor incidents before they get out of hand.

The perfect trifecta looks like this:

Merchant

Developer

Hosting Provider

The hosting provider should have tools in place to monitor the site and be responsible for important notifications.  This is pretty standard in the e-commerce arena today in 2020.  The best hosting providers will have the following services in place and available for developers:

- Application layer troubleshooting to help pinpoint bottlenecks in code
- Proactive support to prevent outages and latency
- Updated security policies
- Monthly pro-active account management
- Scalable infrastructure for unpredictable traffic spikes
- Accountability and processes for compliance
- Real 24/7/365 availability for technical challenges
(Notice I didn't say "support" because everyone seems to be outsourcing that nowadays but is is mediocre at best with the vast majority of providers.)
- Deep knowledge of integrations
